The portal log is used to capture some types of error. If an error has been shown to the user, details of the error are likely to have been written to the log so that if the user does not note down the details they can still be retrieved.
To view the log, go to the Advanced settings Log page.
Each log entry has a timestamp, a link to the item which created the log entry, and the text of the log entry.
Log items are retained for five days by default. You can change the retention period by selecting Edit from the drop-down menu in the top right of the page, changing the log retention, and Save.
The logging is intended for convenience and is not optimised for retaining a large number of items. Do not set the log retention for longer than you are likely to need it to diagnose problems, perhaps 14 days at most.
